Information about the group rides

Hi folks and welcome to Handlebars & Saddles, the all-inclusive cycling club.

Handlebars & Saddles will be a focused group for cyclists willing to take part in the Led ride project scheme.
All led rides will be assessed by qualified led ride leaders.

Led Rides
The Handlebars & Saddles C.C.C. led rides are organised and assessed by qualified Ride Leaders Level 1, Level 2 and also qualified Route Planner(s)
It is envisaged that Willenhall Memorial Park will become the place to meet other cyclists who want to become involved with led rides, building up skills, knowledge and confidence for the everyday cyclist.

Primarily, the club members will be assessed by the qualified ride leaders by initially taking part in cycle ride activity's around the park and the Fibbersley Wildlife Nature Reserve.

Assessment will be made upon how cyclists control their bicycles through simple tasks set before them.
These tasks will allow the assessors to recognise weaknesses and strengths of the cycling group members and then will enable placement within the led riders group.
If successful, the planning of future led ride routes will be become available, this is where the group members can give formative outlines to where the group would like to visit when taking part in the led ride project(s).

No need to worry if you do not meet the led ride criteria for taking part in led rides as there is scope to include advanced cyclist skills to bolster the confidence required for taking part in led rides.
The project will eventually include family led rides, these may be traffic free only, dependent upon the club members skills.
There is already a traffic free family led ride at the location of the Rough Wood Nature Reserve (details yet to be confirmed).

Dates/times shall be announced shortly, so please be patient and please look out for further updates.
Cyclists wishing to use their own bicycles are welcome to join, however, due to the led rides including some off road activity's you are advised to only bring bicycles fit for purpose.

Bicycles fit for purpose are, Hybrid or Mountain Bike. (No road bicycles are allowed due to the alternate terrain the led rides are focused upon at this time).

Future Activities
it is envisaged that, activity's including,

Learn to Ride,

Advanced Cyclist Skills,

Bicycle Maintenance/Servicing,

will become available dependent upon the group members’ demands.

About us

Run by a qualified guided ride leader with over nine years of ride leading experience.
I shall endeavour to employ learn to ride coaches & NSI instructors to fulfil demands of the group if necessary to provide further up skills of interested participants.

Our led rides are assessed by qualified route planners/led ride leaders to ensure that the routes are as safe as possible for our group members.
We are trained in administering  basic first aid, are able to assess participants in ability to cycle safely & can advise on further skill courses if so desired.

Our aim is to ensure everyone has a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all to enjoy & to help in building participants confidence when using their bicycles.
We develop as we learn from one another & this be our vision of the future for the Handlebars & Saddles Cycling Group.
