Group ride
Description

The planning of this Wednesday’s ride has been affected by the inclement and unpredictable weather we have been experiencing over the last couple of weeks.
We meet on the Roseburn cycle path above West Coates at 0950 for a 1000am departure. We proceed on the cycle path to Cramond Brig, the route from there is weather dependent.
If the temperature is low in the morning with the danger of ice we will hug the coast Burnshot, Dalmeny, Whitehouse Point, Queensferry, Toilet stop, Hopetoun, Deer Park, Wester Shore Wood, Blackness, NCN76, Bo’ness, Kinneil, Balderston and Linlithgow Hall for our lunch break. 40K

If there is no danger of ice, we will go Cramond Brig under the road and then the Carlowries, Kirkliston Toilet Stop, Overton, Niddry, Newbigging, West Binny, North and South Mains, Korean War Memorial, Linlithgow for lunch. 40K

The expectation would be for higher temperatures in the afternoon therefore if we have cycled the coast route in the morning we will return via Riccarton, the Ochiltrees, Faucheldean, Overton, the Carlowries and Craigie’s Farm Cafe for coffee and cake. 21K
Route here https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_5005519.html

However, if we have cycled the higher route in the morning we will head north to Airngath Hill, Bonhard Old Mill, Mannerston Holdings, Philpstoun, Duntarvie, Swineburn, the Carlowries and Craigie’s Farm Café for coffee. 26K

If the weather in the pm is dire we will cycle home via Pilgrim’s Hill, Philpstoun, Galascruck, Duntarvie, Swineburn and the Crlowries to Graigie’s Farm Café for coffee. 21K
It is a further 10K back to the start at Roseburn – so overall around 70K.
Confused? Do not be - join us and all will be clear on the day.
The low level coast route in the morning does involve some non-tarmac paths and tracks but the rest of the run is on tarmac.
Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding
You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group – 07713247662 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride. If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.
Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube. Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly! You will need to have water, your lunch, money for the coffee stop and a bike lock. Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
