Event ride
Description

A lovely ride south of Wooler with a variety of terrains from the rugged Cheviot Hills flanking the Breamish Valley to the foothills of the Northumberland sandstone ridge and the valley of the meandering River Till.

From Wooler the route heads to and climbs Weetwood Bank, after which it heads south to the ford at Newtown.  It turns right at East Lilburn and takes the lane southwards towards the A697.  Turning right on to the A697 for a few hundred metres, the route takes the right turn towards Roseden.  Then it makes for Roddam Dean and follows the lovely wooded Admiral Avenue and heads south to Ingram.

From Ingram we head  west up the meandering Breamish Valley with steep towering hills on either side.  After a few miles a steep climb takes us up to Hartside which gives us exhilarating views of Linhope Village and the upper Breamish Valley.  It is not permitted to ride further along the road, so we will turn around and whizz back down to Ingram where we will stop for lunch at the Ingram Cafe next to the church.

After lunch we will continue along the road to Brandon, cross the river over the footbridge to Branton and proceed to the junction with the A697.  We cross straight over the A697 to Beanley and then to Eglingham encountering some steep climbs on the way.  From Eglingham we take the road to Old Bewick and pay a visit to the exquisite small Norman church.  From Old Bewick we take the road north through Chillingham to Chatton and from Chatton we take the B6348 into Wooler.

The ride is all on road.  Distance: 38 miles.  Difficulty level is strenuous  with some steep climbs.

Toilets:  There are toilets open to the public at Wooler and at the NNPA car park/information centre half a mile west of Ingram .  Toilets at pubs and cafes are generally for customers only.

The ride is operated by the Wooler Cycle Hub on behalf of Northumberland National Park Authority.
