Fun in the park kicks off CTC's Big Bike Revival

As a whole-hearted community bike project, Platt Fields Bike Hub is used to welcoming lots of people to its site in Manchester – but there have perhaps been none more famous than our special guest at CTC's launch of The Big Bike Revival!

The Hub was the scene of the launch of our latest campaign, brought together by CTC, which will see two weeks of family-friendly events take place across England from 23 May – 7 June.

And to offer a taste of things to come, mechanics, local schoolchildren, a pedal-powered sound system and even a cargo bike coffee stall gathered together with former EastEnders star Martine McCutcheon for a day of fun in the park.

The Hub’s head mechanic, Dave, got to work on some exhausted bikes, even taking the opportunity to show Martine how to fix common issues easily and quickly. His thoughts? The most surreal maintenance session of his career!

Pupils from the nearby St James Church of England Primary School enjoyed meeting Martine and tucking into a picnic by the lake before learning how to do a simple bike check. This was followed by a spot of slow racing that saw the girls emerge victorious over the boys!

Journalists and photographers from local and national media were also in attendance to cover our launch, which was great fun for everyone to get involved in.

With press interest and Martine McCutcheon’s presence at The Bike Hub we really enjoyed a great atmosphere in the park, best illustrated by so many beaming children enjoying their bikes!

Platt Fields Bike Hub is holding Big Bike Revival events on both 31 May and 7 June, as part of the 1,200 events happening across England.

Why not find your nearest event to become a part of our Big Bike Revival?
