Forthcoming events from Peak Audax CTC and Manchester CTC

As a member of Cycling UK, you may wish to know that we have a series of monthly rides exploring the Manchester area to which you are invited.  Our next ride is from Altrincham to Bury and takes place this Sunday, leaving Altrincham Interchange at 10:30.  The full trip, including a return to our start in Altrincham, is 61km (38 miles).  However, there is the option to cut your ride shorter by catching a train or tram back to the start from Eccles or Bury.  See http://www.peakaudax.co.uk/clubrides.html for details.

Sunday's ride is extracted from one of our series of rides in the Manchester area, which you  can undertake anytime you wish, either on your own, or with friends.  The rides come in stages so you can either tackle the full ride, or just pick and choose your stages, using the train to get you back to where you started.  Just download the GPX file and follow the line.

Station to Station enables you to complete a circuit – well, there are two circuits in fact – by riding between railway stations and tram-stops.  Remember, you are only allowed to take folding bikes on the tram, but the local rail network is more cycle friendly (although you will struggle if you have a tandem or a recumbent).  See http://www.delphcyclist.info/StationsPerm.html

Going For Gold visits the local pillar boxes which were painted gold following the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.  These commemorate all our local gold medal winners.  Who from Bolton won gold, and in what sport?  Just how many pillar boxes does Dame Sarah Storey have?  Follow our trail on RideWithGPS and you’ll find out.   http://www.delphcyclist.info/GoldPerm.html

The Manchester Sightseer, and its little brother the mini-Manc Sightseer, do exactly what the names suggest, allowing you to ride around and catch a glimpse of what makes Greater Manchester so great.  http://www.delphcyclist.info/MancPerm.html and http://www.delphcyclist.info/MiniPerm.html

The Werneth Low Rider is a bit of fun, that is if you like pointless hill climbing.  We have identified seven different ways of cycling up (and down) this 900ft hill that overlooks Manchester.  How many can you tackle before succumbing to the attractions of the Hare and Hounds?  On a clear day, from the top you can see just how far you could have cycled if you hadn’t kept turning back to climb yet another of Werneth Low’s ascents.  http://www.delphcyclist.info/WernethPerm.html
