Worcester & Malvern CTC Newsletter Autumn 2021

From your Chairman

Worcester & Malvern CTC is not in a good position at the moment, arising from the pandemic, lockdown restrictions and other issues. We have not been able to offer Saturday and Wednesday evening group rides because it has proved impossible to get volunteers to lead such rides. Lots of you have been riding regularly in small self-organised groups (I know this because I have met many of you out in the lanes) but I think there is a general hesitancy to lead a possibly larger group ride.

The good news is that the Tuesday rides have been running since September and have been well-supported, with up to 12 riders out together. So there is a demand for group rides.
In addition, three members of the club attended the memorial service with around 400 others held on Sunday 5 September at Meriden Green – the site of the National Cyclists’ Memorial. The service marked 100 years since the first memorial was held to remember all cyclists killed in conflict and we laid a wreath on behalf of the club. Full details here.

So how are we hoping to improve the situation? In the next part of the newsletter are details of a Special General Meeting to be held on Wednesday 17th November, whose purpose is to fill the remaining Committee roles. Then we will have a good range of membership representation who can work together to address the issues we face and plan to move forward to get Club group rides going again. We are holding the meeting in a marquee; it isn't ideal for November but provides confidence to attendees with a well-ventilated and socially distanced space.

Please come along and support your club.
