Club rides have been taking place each Sunday from Whalley for the past few months, with the destination being decided on the day. From tomorrow (Sunday 25th July), we are returning to a pre planned rides list, meeting at Ribchester car park at 9am before heading off to Glasson dock. The full list with start points and destinations is due to be published in a week or so but for now, we have a trio of fairly challenging rides coming up. For those of you who would like to join us but don't feel up to riding the whole day, alternative pick up points are to be arranged in the future.
Earlier this year, Cycling UK put a request out for nominations for the women's festival of cycling. I put our own chairwoman, Anne Stott up for nomination as I feel that she has done so much for our club. I'm sure you would all like to join us in raising a toast, not just to Anne but to all women who get out and cycle.
Blackburn & Dist CTC have been organising club events since 1923. Obviously during the time since we started, things have changed dramatically. The one thing that hasn't changed is that we welcome all along on our rides. We used to have A & B rides, with the 'hard' riders heading off early and not always getting back the same day! Now we only have the one ride per week but yet again, things are changing. For some of our longer rides, we are planning to have alternative pick up points mid way along the ride, so that those who feel the full ride would be too much, they can still come along for part of the day. More details will follow but for the ride to Lancaster on August 1st from Whalley, an alternative is to park in Galgate and meet at Quernmore crossroads. This loop should be around 20 miles with around 1000' of climbing. If you feel like joining us along the way, please get in touch beforehand so we know to expect you.
There will be more rides this year with alternative pick up points plus a few car assisted where we start about an hour's drive from Whalley. Please keep checking our website for further details.
