Welcome to the Ruthin Cycling Club.

We are based in the Vale of Clwyd, North Wales. We encourage cycling for all abilities, ages and genders.

About us

We currently offer on-road group rides and organise Time-trials events locally. Some members are also keen mountain bikers, gravel enthusiasts and bike packers/tourers.

We have a club membership with RideWithGPS which gives members access to our library of local routes and access to those rides as if you were a full RWGPS member, including off-line downloaded turn-by-turn navigation on your smartphone using the app.

To join, please go to the British Cycling website Click Here

Membership costs £20 annually from 2nd January, though those joining from 1st September get the next year included. We encourage prospective members to come along for 2 or 3 trial rides first, but please let us know beforehand (Send email) so we are expecting you and can fit you in the appropriate group.

Unfortunately we cannot accept junior members (under 18’s) as we do not have the qualified trainers, ride leaders or welfare officers required. However, juniors are welcome to join rides if accompanied by a parent/guardian member who is willing to take responsibility for them, and they are capable of completing the rides.

Information about the group rides

We meet in Ruthin at St Peter's Square in the centre of the town, by the Clock Tower.

On Sundays (9:00 am start, promptly!) we have three ability levels, covering 40-60 miles on pre-published routes. The B’s average 11-13 mph (plus stops!) depending on how hilly it is and we make sure no-one gets left behind. The Intermediates average say 13-15 mph with fewer stops and the A’s 15-17 mph over a longer distance. All rides will do perhaps 3,000 to 5,000 feet of climbing – we are in Wales! There is an arranged cafe stop half way and we expect the ride to take around 4 hours.

We also have a 2-hour Sunday Social ride starting at 10:00am at St. Peter's Square, finishing for coffee in Ruthin at about 12:00.

On Wednesdays (10:00 am start) we usually have 2 or 3 groups, depending on numbers, one averaging 10-12 mph and another perhaps 12-14 mph, but it all depends on the abilities of those riding. We aim to finish for a coffee in Ruthin at 12:00. The rides generally involve 1,500 – 2,500 feet climbing and the routes are decided on the morning.

In the summer we sometimes have fast Thursday evening (6:30 pm) “chain-gang” rides and in the winter we organise indoor turbo sessions for members, currently via Zoom.
