The 38-year-old from Inverness, who is one of our 100 Women in Cycling, is well on her way to breaking the world record. Jenny, who is part of The Adventure Syndicate and a member of Cycling UK, started her journey in Berlin on 16 June 2018 at the end of Bike Week and she has now made her way across Russia (in 23 days!) to Mongolia. It’s a tough schedule, with the aim of cycling an average of 180 miles a day.
The journey so far has been eventful, with traffic and close-passing lorries on the Trans-Siberian highway forcing Jenny to change tactic and cycle throughout the night.
She’s had mosquito bites and punctures, but has also made many friends along the way. Jen managed to make it across the border from Russia to Mongolia with only the obligatory 15 passport checks as she passed between Khyagt and Altanbulag.
Jenny is in good spirits and the landscape and people of Mongolia have already blown her away. People are offering her food and shelter at every opportunity, as she plows on past the horses and yurts on her way to China.
You can follow Jenny’s route via a live tracker. The route is 18,000 miles, and so far she has completed more than 5,000 miles. The route takes her across four continents and through 15 countries: Germany, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Mongolia, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Portugal, Spain, France and the Netherlands. She will take four flights and a boat.
