The event, held at The Cube in Birmingham, was a celebration of female involvement in cycling. Cycling UK's list of 100 Women in Cycling highlighted some of the many female supporters of cycling and mountain biking, both within and outside of Cycling UK; the list was made up of women who inspire and encourage others to cycle at a local, national and even international level, many of whom may not be well known by the world at large.

There were fascinating talks from some of the women on the list: Ayesha McGowan, who is aiming to become the first African-American female professional bike racer, as well as Joy Anibaba from Joyful Bellas and Fellas Community Cycling Club and Emily Chappell, a director of The Adventure Syndicate. The evening was compered by Cycling UK Vice Chair Jaki Lowe.

Fellow nominee Sarah Wood said of the evening: "It meant something to me to get the recognition, even though there are many other women like me about who were not nominated. I think the whole thing has given my confidence a boost and the energy to tackle some of the issues concerning cycling in the current climate."

Cycling UK aims to repeat the Women's Festival of Cycling and 100 Women in Cycling again in 2018.
