New Android app for Fill That Hole

The new Fill That Hole Android app is out of the beta testing phase; it will make reporting potholes quicker and easier - and it should mean our roads will get fixed faster.

Following the success of CTC’s pothole reporting website Fill That Hole and the Fill That Hole iPhone app and with thanks to funding from the Department of Transport, CTC are now in the final stages of testing the new Fill That Hole Android app. Please download it from Google Play and give us feedback.

Both apps work by combining a photograph of a pothole or road defect with GPS technology to pinpoint the exact location of the hazard. Once a report is logged, the relevant local authority is informed, so they can quickly inspect and fix it. Reporting a pothole with the app takes less than two minutes.

Potholes are a serious concern for cyclists. We’ve had a number of Cycling UK members end up in hospital after riding over a pothole. Cycling UK set up the ‘Fill That Hole’ website as we want to make it easier for local authorities to find and fix potholes quickly, so fewer cyclists are hurt. Now more people can quickly report potholes via our Fill That Hole apps and the roads will be safer for all.

Sam Jones, Cycling UK Campaigns Coordinator

www.fillthathole.org.uk was set up in 2007 by Cycling UK. It allows users to pinpoint and report potholes and hazards on the roads using an interactive map. The site then passes the information on to the relevant local highway authority, which has a duty to the public to ensure roads are correctly maintained.

The app has been designed to give power to the millions of road users who continue to damage their vehicles and suffer injury as a result of potholes. Fill That Hole also highlights which local authority is responding to the issue and provides figure reporting, fix rates and league tables.

Download the app from iTunes or Google Play.
