Wednesday Club Ride 27th September 2023

Wednesday Cycling UK Louth Ride 27th September 2023

Ride Report by John Rickett:

With the rest of the club still playing truant, Wednesday saw stalwarts personified, Paul Linder and John Rickett, meet at the Meridian Centre for a 10.00 departure to Burgh-le-Marsh, which was Paul's suggestion for a relatively flat ride. By going south we knew that the forecast increase in winds would be in our favour for the return journey.

The outbound route was via Little Cawthorpe and Muckton, then Claythorpe and Aby to avoid the recent hedge cutting on the Meagram Top road, then onto Alford, Willoughby, Welton-le-Marsh and Gunby roundabout with arrival at Roman Bank Bakery at 11.40 - Paul can get a move on even on a single speed bike.

Fortified with baps and coffee, the return journey took the dynamic duo via Orby and Sloothby, then Willoughby and Well with the pair parting company at Mile Cross Hill, the site of the Plague Stone, in use at the cross roads in 1630 where the towns people of Alford exchanged money for food from the villagers of the area.

John completely forgot the advice about avoiding the Meagram Top road, however no punctures occurred and both arrived at their respective homes having covered approximately 57 (dry) miles......an excellent ride on a fine late September day.
