Wedneday Wander to Maltby-le-Marsh 4th October 2023

Cycling UK Louth’s Wednesday Wander to Maltby-le-Marsh. 4th October 2023.

Ride Report by John Rickett.

Cycling UK Louth ‘flag flying’ continued in Blighty with Alan Hockham, Paul Linder and John Rickett assembling at the Meridian Centre for the requested ride to The Stables at Maltby-le-Marsh. It was a chilly but dry start to the day and if the weathermen could be believed, would remain dry for the duration.

Paul was putting his latest acquisition, a Chas Roberts 1980s tourer, to the test while Alan was sporting new puncture resistant Schwalbe Marathon tyres. Both bikes (and riders) performed faultlessly and with a generally westerly wind we were quickly passing through Stewton, Legbourne, the Carltons, Withern, Strubby and onto Malty-le Marsh.

We were the only visitors at the time to the Stables and our orders for sausage, bacon or egg sandwiches were promptly prepared.

The return journey was via Beesby and the cross roads at Woodthorpe, Alan bade his farewell at Beesby for his return to Sutton, Paul and John continued to Aby having swapped bikes for the length of Rye Lane. It’s interesting to jump straight from one bike to another, it really allows any differences to be noted. I think Paul was pleased to have his bike returned without any scrapes!

Paul returned to Alford via Greenfield lane, with John continuing back to Louth on the Meagram Top road.

The weathermen were telling the truth all along, it stayed dry and even warmed up noticeably.

(ED: Many thanks to John for yet another splendid report!).
