Northern Learning Trust / Military Veterans Cycle Club

Cycling UK Affiliated Group

Northern Learning Trust / Military Veterans Cycle Club

We are a Military Veterans Cycle Group, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The main aim is to enrol members on a programme of weekly rides and social get together.

Bikes will be provided for the first 6 rides and at the end of which, riders will be awarded a £50.00 voucher towards a refurbished bike purchased at Recyke Y'Bike, Byker.

Members will be encouraged to continue riding with the group and will have the opportunity to develop the club further through peer mentors and ride leaders.

Support and signposting services are also available for those who need them.

This is your chance to get involved in developing a cycling club for Veterans, by Veterans.

About us

The project has the potential to positively impact our mental health through three conduits:

1. Social Group Membership

  • Spending time with others who share our identity, helps us to feel understood and that we belong.

2. Peer Support

  • The support of our peers has been shown to be helpful in a number of ways, due to our shared experiences, perspectives and knowledge.

  • We also learn from others, who have similar backgrounds and benefit from improved mental health, when we feel both supported and supportive.

3. Physical Activity

  • It has been suggested that structural changes can be observed in the brain which impact on an individuals' reported levels of depression and anxiety.

  • Additionally, exercise has also been found to improve self-concept in certain groups

Information about the group rides

We ride out every Thursday at 10am and during the lighter nights, we will try and do some evening rides depending on numbers.

Some weekend rides will also be organised subject to requests.
