We’ve been to a great range of venues across East and West Sussex, enjoyed many picnics, met a lot of new members and had an inspiring trip to the New Forest ‘Gridiron’ event where we all received medals! Locally, we had a setback with the removal of the temporary cycle lanes on the Old Shoreham Road, but a petition has been set up by local parents for lanes to be redesigned and replaced. This east-west route is the only viable option for cycle lanes north of the coastal railway line, and connects with a number of schools and colleges.
Cycling UK’s Cycle Advocacy Network (CAN) is gaining momentum! There are local advocates in Brighton and Hove and across the UK who are helping to bring about the conditions that enable more people to cycle. Read more about this here.
In Brighton and Hove, the crucial and long-awaited Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan is out for consultation. It aims for “A better connected city where active travel (walking, cycling, wheeling) is the first choice for getting from A to B.” Make sure you give your views so that the good ideas can be taken forward. The LCWIP consultation lasts until 15 November 2021.
At the same time, the new overarching Local Transport Plan is setting out priorities for transport and travel across the city until 2030. Have your say before the deadline of 15 November 2021!
