Huddersfield CTC Triennial 100 mile ride in 12 hours for veteran riders (over 50 years) Sunday 16 June 2019

Are you over 50 and want a challenge? It is 3 years since the last Huddersfield CTC Trivets and so time for another one. We are using the route devised by the late John Radford, former Chairman of the Huddersfield CTC. John died in 2014 as a result of injuries received when in collision with a car that was being driven dangerously.

For those who ride around Huddersfield and think that 100 miles is a bit much, then do think again. John’s route is much kinder. I would describe the few hills as slopes really. It is very different countryside to the hills we are familiar with. You will be riding from near Castleford onto the flood plains of the River Aire and Ouse.

The start and end of the ride will be at Fairburn Church Hall on Silver Street, Fairburn WF11 9JA, near Castleford. Public transport to Fairburn on a Sunday would be difficult so the only realistic way of getting to Fairburn for the start is by car. Parking is available at the Church Hall.

This is a led ride of 2 loops. The roads are quiet B roads in the main with approximately 10 miles on A roads. The starts at 8 am and the There will be a morning café stop, at about 10 40 am for 20 minutes, a second stop will be in Selby at 1 pm, a two course substantial lunch will be served at the Fairburn Church Hall between 2.30 and 3.30, The second shorter loop of 42 miles starts after a lunch break. The afternoon stop of 20 minutes is at a Riverside pub in Cawood after 21 miles. The last 21 miles takes us back to Fairburn Church Hall for 8 pm.

The ride will have leaders and back up riders so that no one will be left behind.

Participants should make sure that their bikes are roadworthy and a spare inner tube, tyre levers and cycle pump are carried. Ride leaders will be there to help in case of a mechanical breakdown.

On completion of the ride, tea and cakes are available. Donations are welcome for the CTC Road Justice Campaign in memory of John Radford.

If you want to join, please complete the registration form below. Early registration is recommended since places are limited to 50. Closing date for registration is 7 June 2019.
