Getting ready for the spring rides!

Work is expected to start soon on the third and final phase of the Valley Gardens project, linking this central cycle route to the seafront, connecting with National Cycle Network Route 2.

In addition, the extension of the A259 seafront cycle route westwards, and Phase 1 (from Preston Circus to Preston Drove) of the A23 cycle route are both expected to start this spring or summer.

The Western Road scheme is in progress with diversions in place. There will be some junction improvements.

• School Streets: for safer journeys to school for children and everyone are operating at 9 sites across Brighton and Hove with several more to come.

West Sussex County Council are consulting on three routes:

• Western Road corridor: A27/Busticle Lane in the north to A259/Western Road in the south
• A2025 Grinstead Lane corridor: A27/Grinstead Lane in the north to A259/South Street in the south
• East-West: Lambleys Lane/Upper Brighton Road in the west to A2025 Grinstead Lane/Crabtree Lane in the east

The proposals are for a two-way cycle lane, separated from the road and footway by kerbs, with some sections of shared use walking/cycling or on-road cycle provision. Find out more and give your views here until Monday 27 February 2023.

There are five Cycling UK CAN Local Representatives in Brighton and Hove, several more in West Sussex and many across the UK. We are advocates for cycling. We attend council meetings, raise issues, respond to consultations, check proposals and work on new cycle routes. The role is wide ranging. Many of us are also involved in other community initiatives. Cycling UK is now offering its support and expertise to campaign groups via a loose partnership arrangement. More information here.
