Sunday May 19th. 10 - 45 miles.
Depending on your choice of options, you could do anything between 10 and 45 miles on the day.
Option 1: Longest mileage option.
Join leader Drew K. at the car park in Kilmeny Terrace, Ardrossan, KA22 8DX.
Be ready to depart at 9:10 prompt for the 13 mile trip to Largs Ferry Terminal.
Note:- Pace will be at least 12mph average along this section - you have a ferry to catch @ 10.35.
Option 2: If going by car to Largs, a good parking place is at Largs Yacht Haven Marina just outside the town.
Enter the Marina, go over the railway bridge and into the car park on the left.
From there, use the cycle route passing Pencil Point and along the prom.
Allow 10 minutes to cycle the 1.6 miles from the Marina to the Ferry Terminal.
Option 3: Do your own thing.
Just be at Largs Ferry Terminal for 10:35.
Ferry tickets cost £3.60 return with no extra charge for bicycles as at 26/2/2024.
All options target to embark on the 10:45 ferry. (You should have your tickets 10 mins. before departure - hence the highlighted 10:35 times)
No matter how you get there, once on the Island the pace will be a leisurely pootle & bimble.
Following a 10 mile circumnavigation of the coastline, there will be the option to head up to the view-point at the top of the Island.
Lunch is completely flexible.
Bring your own or utilise one of the many cafes/takeaways in Millport.
Eat in or sit out - your choice.
Return will be by "next available ferry" which is half-hourly.
Riders are free to stay on for more time on the island if they wish.
Riders returning to Ardrossan have the option of cycling back down the coast or catching a train.
If intending to use the train, check on the day that they are running as scheduled- repair work tends to get carried out on Sundays.
