Cotswold Holiday April 2024

Cotswold Holiday April 2024

This is a four night stay from 22nd to 26th April 2024 in ensuite accommodation at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester providing three days of led rides, at Easy, Moderate and Moderate Faster pace, subject to leaders volunteering.

You can cycle (about 70 miles) to and from Cirencester or drive. There is plenty of parking and there is secure storage for bikes.  Breakfast and evening dinner are included and you will certainly not go hungry.  We will collect our food from the servery in the refectory but have a separate room reserved for us to eat together.  There is a bar where we can meet in the evenings.

The information about which Midweek group you usually ride with is just to help leaders plan rides and does not commit you to riding with that group.

The holiday is open to all Cycling UK members.  Non-riding partners sharing a room are also welcome.  You can find more information about the RAU here.

If you haven’t ridden with the South Bucks Midweek group before, these are our ride categories as a guide:

"E" - Easy Pace: 25-35 miles @ 10 mph

"M" - Moderate Pace: 35-50 miles @ 12 mph

"MF" - Moderate Faster Pace: 45-60 miles @ 14 mph

The rides will all be circular, starting and finishing at our accommodation.  The starting time, decided by the leader will typically be 09:00 to 09:30.  Each group will stay together and the leader will adjust the pace to suit the group and wait while punctures or mechanical problems are fixed, so nobody will be left in unfamiliar territory.

Rides will generally have an 11’s stop at a café and a lunch break at a pub.  We have been to the RAU at Cirencester several times before so we have some routes we can use again, though cafes and pubs come and go, so they will need to be checked.

Last year we created a WhatsApp group which worked well for keeping everyone in contact during their stay and to share pictures from the rides, so we can do that again.

If you like to come, please complete the online booking request form by 29th February.  We will then confirm with the RAU that they can meet all the room requirements and contact you again for full payment and emergency contact details in a separate online form.

If you have any questions please contact me to arrange a chat.

With fingers crossed for good weather,

Peter Robinson
