Welcome to the second issue of Burnley & Pendle CTC's quarterly newsletter.
It doesn't seem like three months since we published our first issue, summer seems to have flown by.
In the last three months, we've completed this year's collection of Challenge Rides, with our two longest challenges, the 100km and 100mile ride. Congratulations to the 11 riders completing the 100km, and the 6 completing the 100mile.
We've also had our last weekend away for the year, visiting Tewkesbury and the Malvern Hills, read more about it below.
A mix of regular riders from our short and medium rides, and two new riders set out today from Whalley on our annual 100km Challenge Ride.
Heading out via Billington, Dinckley and Ribchester, along familiar roads to Longridge, and then through Broughton and Inskip to our morning brew stop at Bonds in Elswick.
On what turned out to be the hottest August Bank Holiday weekend on record, six riders set off from Whalley Bus Station at 8:30am for our annual 100 Mile Challenge Ride.
This year we were upping the stakes a little, aiming to complete the ride in 8 hours (that's ride time, not elapsed time). That meant we needed to sustain an average speed of 12.5 miles per hour.
The historic market town of Tewkesbury, situated in Gloucestershire, at the confluence of the Rivers Severn and Avon, was the destination for our Autumn weekend. With it's magnificent Abbey, Medieval and Tudor buildings, it made a perfect base for rides out to neighbouring Worcester and the Malverns. It was also the site of The Battle of Tewkesbury, which took place on 4 May 1471, one of the decisive battles of the Wars of the Roses. Rather apt as our weekly rides often straddle the Lancashire/Yorkshire border.
Our annual Christmas Lunch and presentation of awards this year, will, once again, be held at Rolls Royce Leisure in Barnoldswick, on Sunday 15th December 2019
Lunch will be at 2:30 for 3pm, and will be preceeded by a short ride, starting from the venue at 10am.
