Welcome to our first newsletter of 2020. Our cycling took a bit of a hit over February, with us being forced to cancel a few of our Sunday and Tuesday rides due to the arrival of Storms Ciara and Dennis. We still had an eventful quarter though, with the introduction of our new points based system for the Jack Harrison trophy, a very eventful quiz night, and one members very special celebration. Read more below.
Coming up, we have a Slide Show on 26th March, a Treasure Hunt with Blackburn & District CTC on 3rd May, and a long weekend's cycling based in Bridlington starting on 15th May. You can get more details from any of our committee members. That's all in addition to our regular Sunday and Tuesday evening rides.

As our regular riders are all aware, we have two trophies that are awarded every year at the club Christmas dinner, to the two riders the committee has elected as having made a significant contribution to the club over the last 12 months, or riders who have shown significant improvement over the same period. Quite often this has been put to a members vote at our A.G.M. in November.
This is always a very difficult decision to make, given that we have two trophies, and we (the committee) have had many discussions on how to better nominate the recipients of these awards, along with giving a more concrete definition as to why they have been awarded.
With this in mind, we have come up with a points based system which we will trial this year for the Jack Harrison trophy. In summary, you accumulate points by joining club rides, or attending club social events. The member with the most points after the next A.G.M. will receive the trophy. The Bill Heywood trophy will continue to be awarded by committee nomination or vote at the A.G.M.
The most closely fought competition in recent years actually started out with us thinking this years quiz might not even happen. A confusion over the booking left our four eager quiz teams stood out in the cold after finding our usual venue was, in fact, closed.
On Sunday 1st March 2020, riders from Burnley and Pendle CTC and Barnoldswick Clarion met at the Esse Cafe in Barnoldswick for a joint ride to Earby for a very special occasion.
One of our members, David Wilkinson, was celebrating his 90th Birthday, and his daughter, Margaret (who rides most weekends with the club) had arranged a special day for him, meeting family and friends from a lifetime of cycling.
