Recharge Bicycle Project

Recharge Bicycle Project

Recharge has recently launched their new bicycle project social enterprise to promote safe cycling in the Fa’side area and to improve the local cycling infrastructure. They also offer a range of services to the community, such as services, repairs and a shop with reconditioned bicycles for sale.

About the centre

The bicycle project has been running for several years and was originally set up to upskill young people on bike maintenance. The current project is an expansion of the previous project as it is now open to the whole community. The project was in high demand and is now set up as a social enterprise, meaning any money raised will be spent on supporting the local community, thanks to seed corn funding from the Fa'side Area Partnership, which allows it to run weekly every Monday and Friday from 1.30pm until 4.30pm both days. It is ran in Recharge 3 Church Street Tranent by the bicycle project worker Kyle Munro and Recharge Manager Alan Bell.

Activities available at the centre

Recharge bicycle project provides safety checks, bike maintenance, services and repairs. The project also takes donations of bicycles and sells them at affordable prices. However, Recharge can gift bicycles to community members who wouldn't normally have the opportunity to purchase them. Furthermore, they are also using a bike register of local bikes and the owners to help combat bicycle thefts. They are also working with local schools and groups to help educate and build up skills on safe cycling locally
