Volunteer Awards 2019 Finalist - Henry Norman, Ride Sheffield

Henry has been the Chair of Ride Sheffield for a long time and has helped make the city into the mountain bike hub that it is.

The citation for Henry Norman says: "Henry IS Ride Sheffield (a Cycling UK-affiliated MTB trail advocacy group). With his boundless energy, the group has built a crowdfunded trail of national significance, the immensely popular Lady Cannings and is near to completion of a second at Redmires.

Henry helps with new trails and organising trail days to show to the council, the Peak District National Park and other user groups that mountain bikers can be counted on to look after the countryside that we ride.

Henry has established great relationships with local landowners, enabling a network of concessionary bike routes on local moors. He personally leads many dig days and conservation days planting trees. He is endlessly patient and diplomatic talking to the sometimes anarchistic MTB community."

Ride Sheffield is separately nominated for the Outstanding Campaigning Group category for its work on our 'Be Nice, Say Hi' campaign around cyclists and horse riders.
