There’s the DRRt Cranbourne Chaser from the Dorset Rough Riders, the classic Skills Challenges from Cycling UK Stevenage, and of course the famous Dartmoor Devil in Bovey Tracey and Emitremmus events to round off the summer. With this in mind, please note we've moved the deadline for individual registration from the end of August to the end of October. If anyone has not yet registered individually for the Tourist Competition this year or missed the deadline, you can still register up until midnight on 31 October. Remember, we cannot count results unless you are registered with us as an individual. Find out how to register here.
So far we’ve had an amazing 60 plus events take place all over the country, including the Bicycle Icicle in Godalming, the annual and much loved Devon Dirt from CTC Devon, right through to Chase the Sun and the Devon Delight. A highlight was the CTC Cymru Welsh Festival of Cycling in Ruthin, which featured a family-friendly treasure hunt for all ages and abilities. The Festival itself was a four-day event over 19-24 July, incorporating a range of rides through the local countryside and was based at the local rugby club right at the edge of historical Ruthin.
Lowri Evans, secretary of Chester and North Wales CTC said of this year's successful treasure hunt: “The route was set with families in mind and thanks to the lanes and cycle paths in the area two children’s playgrounds, a café, a village shop and an ice-cream farm were on the route; these provided welcome distractions for some of the riders with a few managing to incorporate all of the opportunities for refreshment stops into the 16 miles. In total 22 people took part in the event, with an age range of over 80 years between the youngest of the juniors in the team event and the most senior individual rider.”
The event is run in two categories; those that wish to earn points towards their Tourist Competition total compete as an individual, and those who don’t can compete as a team of two. As there is no GPS allowed, Lowri reported that “as ever, there was discussion at the end as riders groaned over the answers they had missed or delighted in the clues they had found.”
The team event was won by Roy and Jill Binden, and the individual winner was Paul Mills.
