Ronica Syed

Ronica Syed is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for her passion and enthusiasm in encouraging cycling in her local community.

Roni joined up to a local community cycling club based at Ashiana Community Project (ACP) in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The project exists to enable the local people to improve their quality of life by working together in creating opportunities for the community, individuals and families to be the best they can possibly be. The cycling group aims to do just that and Roni is one of the shining examples.

The group is one of Cycling UK's Community Cycle Clubs, and Roni has been nominated by Cycling UK's Vannessa Morris, who told us "She suffers greatly with anxiety and cycling has not only bought her out of herself, but she has started to demonstrate great passion combined with a love of cycling so Roni is a great advocate for women in her community who would not normally cycle."

She is getting to the stage where she would like to train as a ride leader to give back to the local community, through training and helping others achieve what she has.

Roni told us: "I started cycling because it was something I had always wanted to do but never got the chance to learn until last year/about a year and a half ago. I still feel like I'm a learner, and this is a good thing because I like to keep improving! We have an all female cycling group at the moment and are just in the process of starting organising our own cycling events, so very exciting times!"

I love cycling because it allows me to feel free as it becomes a meditative experience for me. I get to see the world in a completely different way.

"I love cycling because it allows me to feel free as it becomes a meditative experience for me. I get to see the world in a completely different way to when I am driving. I like the effort I put in, because my reward is a healthier happier body. One of the best things I ever learned and continue to enjoy."
