GoBike: Strathclyde Cycle Campaign - Runner-up

GoBike was shortlisted in the Outstanding Campaigning Group category for Cycling UK's 2018 Volunteer of the Year Awards.

Glasgow based GoBike have been campaigning for cycle safety since the 1980s, but this last year’s activity has increased since new convenors Iona Shepherd and David Brennan began their tenure.

GoBike have run a wide range of street and internet campaigns over the last year including councillor tours, a builders tea break thank you, and a campaign to include segregated cycling in plans for a major high street in Glasgow, called Paint is Not Protection. They also support several local “mini-campaigns” to grow the message for local infrastructure and investment from the ground up. GoBike is social media savvy, and quickly disseminates information about numerous road consultations to provide groups with more information to constantly feedback to local authorities. This approach has seen real results.

Cycling UK is therefore proud and happy to recognise GoBike's significant contribution to their local community and environment. Keep up the good work!

Cycling UK's Volunteer of the Year Awards are given annually to recognise and celebrate all the incredible work volunteers do in encouraging others to start cycling and keep cycling.
