Eme Cosh

Eme Cosh is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for being a really positive role model to young girls who want to take up mountain biking.

Although she’s only 14 years old, and she’s only been mountain biking since 2018, Eme Cosh is already making her mark.

She rides with several ladies MTB groups and is a member of the Swinley Forest Development Team. And she is a regular competitor in enduro events across the south of England, winning some races and regularly making the podium, even when racing against girls up to four years older than her.

But perhaps most importantly, Eme is also using her own Instagram account to show other potential young female mountain bikers that it can be done – and it’s fun!

Eme said: “I have always been active but mountain biking has opened up so many new opportunities for me. I had previously focused on gymnastics so to be outside is fantastic.

"Doing MTB is such a team sport and I feel very motivated - and competitive! - when I’m out with a group of riders. It doesn’t matter what level of skill you have, as we are there to have fun and to try and better ourselves.

“I feel proud of how I have progressed with my training in a short time - even when a few crashes have got in the way - and I want to keep on building my skills even further. Loading up the truck with our bikes at 6am on a sunny Saturday morning is the best!”

Eme was nominated for 100 Women in Cycling by Cycling UK’s Ross Adams, who said: “Eme is 14 years old and recently took up mountain biking as an additional outdoor hobby.

“As part of the Swinley Forest Development Team and through using her Instagram account, she is trying to break down stereotypes around young women mountain biking and racing.

"She is a really positive role model for young girls and women to take up mountain biking and challenge the traditional stereotypes.”
