Carol Parsons has enjoyed cycling since childhood and in her teenage years, she used to ride her mum’s hand built classic steel frame, made in her home town of Southend-on-Sea. However, Carol herself has had her biggest impact on cycling rather further north.
For 10 years Carol has worked promoting and developing cycling for the Peak District National Park. She has been an enthusiastic ambassador for all types of cycling in the Peak District and, with her fixed-term contract recently coming to and end, she has left an important legacy.
In addition to her work in the Peaks, in 2003 Carol also co-founded Glory Days Bikes. The company offers retro bike hire and sales, and puts on cycling experiences. She is now focused on building the business’s profile across the UK and internationally.

Carol said: “When I was younger, my bike gave me freedom to get around when I where I wanted, without relying on my parents ‘taxi service’.
“Now I love everyday cycling for convenience, and cycle touring adventures for discovering new places. Cycling allows me to have a great time, as well as the freedom and self-reliance it affords.”
Carol was nominated for 100 Women in Cycling by Cycling UK’s Sam Jones, who said: “Carol was the lead at the Peak District NPA's business initiative.
“Carol created the guide for how businesses could be more cycle friendly, leading to the creation of more cycle-friendly cafés, pubs and accommodation in the Peak District.”
Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to cycle.
