Greater Manchester needs a “world-class transport system” says Conservative candidate

Sean Anstee, the Conservative candidate running for mayor of Greater Manchester, tells us his plans for cycling should he be elected on 4 May

On 4 May 2017, millions of people across England will go to the polls to elect new metro mayors. Sean Anstee is the Conservative candidate for Greater Manchester’s first ever metro mayor and he has revealed his plans for cycling, should he be elected.

Speaking to Cycling UK, he explained that he wants everyone in Greater Manchester to enjoy a “world-class transport system and cycling plays an important part in making that happen”. He emphasised the need for people to have a choice in how they get around the city of Greater Manchester and mentioned that the benefits of cycling go way beyond improving health and easing congestion, with positive effects for business and the local economy too.

Watch what Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Manchester mayoral candidate, has pledged for cycling.

We will soon be sharing the Liberal Democrat candidate Jane Brophy’s plans too.
