Barbara Kerr is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2018 list for being a consistent and reliable volunteer with Belles on Bikes.

Barbara stepped up her everyday commuter cycling when she was offered ride leader training through work. With this under her belt, she was able to offer her new skills to her local cycling group, Belles on Bikes Edinburgh, and start leading her own women-only rides. She has done this every month now for over three years, rain or shine.

Barbara has also since trained up as a Bikeability instructor, and last year joined the Cycling UK Scotland Committee.

Barbara says the best thing about cycling is: “The freedom and the convenience over other forms of transport – especially in the city. The power it has to liberate, in a physical sense by making it easy to get to places that would be costly and time consuming to get to with other transport modes, and mentally blowing away the cobwebs and providing a sense of just myself on a bike in the present moment, surrounded by nature - once you get away from busy roads!”

Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling is an annual list celebrating inspirational women who are encouraging others to take part in this wonderful and life-enhancing activity.
