Group ride
Description

Sorry to all, but I am cancelling tomorrow’s ride as it’s just too cold! However, if you had planned to come along , please do come for lunch at 12.30 pm, at 1 St Ninian’s Road, Corstorphine, EH12 8AP.  Soup, cheese and mince pies to kick off Christmas!

I had hoped that the forecast might change, but instead it’s got colder and likely slippery in places.

See you tomorrow,

Janet

Your Christmas starts here!

Sunday’s ride is a jolly 25 miles with a photo opportunity and coffee stop at North Queensferry then back to ours for soup, cheese and mince pies.  Vegan and gluten free options available. All are welcome, but in this case, to make sure I have enough for everyone please do let me know by Friday if you are considering joining the ride.  However, if it is too icy for me, the ride will be cancelled, but I do hope you will come along anyway to 1 St Ninian’s Road, Corstorphine, EH12 8AP, for lunch at 12.30 pm.

We will meet at Roseburn Path at 9.50 am for 10 am departure.  We will head out to Cramond and take the underpass to the Kirkliston road, but turn up Standingstane and then left onto the B800 where we will whizz down to the bridge.  We will enjoy the scenery from the bridge, but once we are over the bridge, we will turn right to head along Ferryhills road. A wee bit of a climb here to get over the top to the view down to North Queensferry and the Rail Bridge.  Now there is a steep descent- please take great care. I will be going down very slowly.  We can take in the view from Battery Road and I have arranged a morning coffee (filter only)/tea at the Ferryhills Hotel, where we can get a heat and a toilet stop.(13 miles)

After coffee, we will continue round on a gentle climb to get back over the bridge and onto the railway path to Dalmeny and then the cycle path by the A90.  We will get to our house via Cammo Road, Turnhouse and Craigs Road. (25 miles total)

Here is the route:

As noted above this ride is weather dependant.  Please check your email / website for any last-minute updates.

The route is on roads or tarmac cycle path but there may be a covering of wet leaves in places, which might make the surface slippery so do take care.

Everyone is very welcome to attend but for riders new to the group, our riding guidelines on the following link are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders.  https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding   You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07974113737 and for new riders, I will collect your details prior to the ride.  If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email icectc.lb@gmail.com with your contact details and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy especially the brakes and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube.  Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly.  You will need to have water, money for coffee stop and a bike lock.  Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

See you Sunday!

Janet and Gordon.
