Group ride
Description

Meet at the Roseburn Path as per info here https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/list-cycle-rides-edinburgh-and-our-starting-points for a 10am departure as we head for sunny, or not as the case may be, Fife.  Lunch destination is Dysart where we sit oot at the harbour - there is a cafe to get a cuppa - so bring a piece.

We shall ride the well worn route to Crossgates, probably pausing at Inverkeithing to examine the facilities in the library building (two bakers across the road if you want a pie stop), thence onward to Auchtertool where we start to climb Cardendenward and then track across before dropping through Kirkcaldy for Dysart with 34 miles under our wheels.

After lunch we shall take a coastal route via Kinghorn so we can enjoy the view toward Edinburgh from the heights before descending to Aberdour.  The coastal path is our most likely way back to the bridge, but we'll see how things are.  If coffee is  desired I suggest we sample the newly covered external seating at Down the Hatch, Port Edgar.  Back to Roseburn will be approximately 61 miles in all.

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding

Please ride in groups of around 4-6, depending on our total numbers, with adequate gaps between to allow traffic (these artics can be long) to safely slot in after overtaking.  As the last one in a group, don't leave a junction until you are sure the following group has seen which way we are going.

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy, and that you carry 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change same, remembering a pump. In accordance with good riding practice you should carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag. An attendance sheet will be completed on the morning if I can persuade my system to print one out.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home. The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members.  Non-members are very welcome but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.

Cheers
