Black Loch

Group ride
Description

Text your name, on the day, to 07949226156 to join the ride, otherwise you will be following the ride as an individual. I won't be using a tick list of riders.

A picnic lunch at Black Loch and then turn for home. Please note that the ride will end outside the Miller and Carter Steakhouse (Cramond Brig).

We start from Slateford Viaduct outside the closed down Blue Goose. Following the canal to Gogar Station Road, Heriot Watt (toilet stop), Long Dalmahoy Road, Kirknewton, East Calder, Mid Calder, Almondvale Park, Livingston Village, Nell Burn, Bangour Hospital, Drumcross Road, Bathgate, Armadale, Gowanbank, Greenhill, B825 to Black Loch. (lunch) (50km)

In the afternoon – retrace B825 to B8022, California, Maddiston, Whitecross, Linlithgow (Coffee and cake, depending on numbers we may need to split into smaller groups to find cafes), Philpstoun, Kirkliston, Burnshot bypass for pedestrians and cyclists and then separate at the Miller and Carter steakhouse (95km)

Please ensure your bike is roadworthy. Carry two spare inner tubes, water, pump, basic tool/repair kit, snacks to keep you going, packed lunch and a bike lock.  Please carry emergency contact details both on your person (card in wallet/purse, ICE on mobile) and in your bike bag.

On main or busy roads please maintain a sizeable gap between groups of 6 or 8 cyclists. Make sure the following groups know which turning we are taking especially through Livingston.
Riding guidelines are here.

Safety warning- There is a steep hill down to Bathgate. The roads are likely to be wet, extreme caution is needed – don’t build up excessive speed.

The route can be found here.

While experienced group members will always give assistance and advice to other riders ultimately you are responsible for yourself and making your own way home.  Hopefully no-one would be left in a situation of not knowing how to get home.

No attendance sheet will be completed instead text your name to my mobile number (above).  The ride is primarily for Cycling UK members.  However, non-members are welcome to attend, but would be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
