We shall depart Fisherrow harbour Link from our webpages at 10am for lunch at Athelstaneford hall, entry to which we do not gain until 12.30 due to use by the school. I have put the bulk of the ride's mileage in to the morning to ensure that we do not have to stand about in the cold awaiting entry. Morning distance is approximately 23 miles with the afternoon at less than 20.
Outward journey will ascend Carberry as a warmer upper for the climb to Cousland whence we will head for Pencaitland, turning left before East Saltoun for Haddington (where we can pause at the toilets) the leaving of which gives another nice wee climb to Byres Hill so we arrive warm at lunch.
We shall retrace our wheeltracks from lunch to the A6137 then cut across country to St Germains level crossing to go north by the golf course and work our way back along the coast. We should reach Musselburgh in time for a coffee if needed - perhaps to try the Tolbooth which I see is open again or the Cafe on the Corner, depending on numbers.
For riders new to the group our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for all; they can be found here https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding You will be expected to join Cycling UK after 3 rides.
Do take note of my phone number (079348 40556) in case you get separated from the group, and I will collect contact details etc prior to the ride. If you intend to be a regular rider with us please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your contact details, and a contact number in case of emergency, so that we will have your details available.
Please make sure your bike is roadworthy, especially the brakes, and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube. Whilst I hope to return to Fisherrow in more or less daylight I regard lights as essential for the run. Do take note of the weather and dress accordingly. You will need to have water, money just in case and a bike lock. Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible with punctures and mechanical problems, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.
